Fernando Alonso confident for Spanish GP after success in Turkish GP

Ferrari scored its first podium of the season. Fernando Alonso who drove brilliantly just missed the second position in the later stage of the race.

The team performance was not upto the mark until the sunday's Turkish Grand Prix Race.

With the three week break from chinese to turkish grand prix, it provided the team to workout for the team performance and Ferrari introduced new upgrades for the car.

The team spent the last few weeks on wind tunnel calibration problems that were hindering their good progress in the races.

The driver, Alonso, put the team on the third spot. However, Ferrari is expecting more from its driver in the Spanish Grand Prix. They have decided to deliver more upgrades to their new car to put the drivers on improving performance.

After the race, the team's principal, Stefano Domenicali, expressed his feelings and said that what they have been seen in Turkish race weekend was going in the right direction. Moreover, he is expecting another good step towards their success in the next race of the season.

He added, "What I am saying to my people is; don't expect the others to stay asleep. All the other competitors will react and improve, and this year will be a very challenging season - apart from the fact that we have seen that Red Bull has the fastest and most reliable car, but we will see.”

Ferrari principal admitted that this year, winning in the qualifying round is not as important, as the car's pace plays vital role to achieve the race victory of competitive driver.

"We need to remember that during all the races, the pace was not too bad, everywhere. But, when you start so [far] behind, you cannot really show completely your race pace because you have to do a good start, and try to get out of traffic so you do not destroy the tyres. That is the real issue.”

Michael Schumacher crashing into Vitaly Petrov car in 2nd lap on this sunday Turkish Grand Prix resulted in a broken front wing for Michael Schumacher and the cause of his disastrous race. He ended 12th in the race after starting 8th and even dropped to 22nd once on 3rd lap.

Michael takes the blame for the incident.

"I am not very happy with my weekend, but I'm responsible myself for the result," Schumacher said.

"The incident with Petrov kind of dictated my race. We were very close and I was surprised that we touched but it was mostly my mistake."

Schumi is an aggressive driver and 7 time world champion is known for not allowing driver to pass and is also banned for his deliberate accident causing actions in the past.

The Istanbul race is the one that suits his driving style confirmed Schumi.

"Anyway the race was a given from there, lots of fighting, lots of action, but for nothing. The golden helmet, that's what we call it in Germany, that's what I got and nothing else, so it's a bit of a shame."

Schumacher also said: "From where we came, going forward is always better than still having to defend going backwards and mostly I was able to go forward, but the big joy is not there right now, except some action, that's about it.

Monaco will be DRS Enabled Race

Drag Reduction System (DRS) will be in use at Monaco Grand Prix.

Earlier, Formula 1?s governing body, the FIA had expressed concerns over the use of the new drag reduction system or DRS during the Monaco grand prix. This came as the streets of Monaco are too narrow and the track to a bit too tight for the use of DRS.

DRS basically reduces the drag created by the rear wing and this is done by opening up a rear wing flap to allow air to pass freely. This reduces the drag an allows for better top speed but in doing so the car looses downforce. Up till now, DRS was allowed only on the straighter parts of the circuit where drivers could use the wing to gain more speed given that they are a second behind the car ahead.

FIA is yet to issue an official notification about the use of DRS during the Monaco GP but but according to some publications the FIA race director Charlie Whiting has confirmed the device will not be banned in Monaco.

It has also not been confirmed which area of the circuit the DRS activation zone will be used in, however the tunnel is believed to be inappropriate due to the high closing speeds concerned and the possibility of cars becoming airborne.

The race will take place on 29th May after Spanish GP.

Sam Michael to change team in 2012

Recently it was announced by Williams team that Sam Michael has resigned from his post of Technical Director and will be leaving the team after 2011 as his contract ends this season.

Sam Michael confirmed his willingness to stay in Formula One with some other team.

"I'll clearly be in formula one next year," said Michael, who started his F1 career with Jordan and Lotus in the 90s. "Where? I don't know yet. I can't talk about it."

In May 2004 he became technical director, but Williams struggled to create a winning package and slipped down the field.

Michael, who has received backing from Rubens Barrichello and Mark Webber in recent days, insisted it was his decision to quit Williams and has been bouyed by the interest of other teams.

"I've had some interest already from outside, which is encouraging," he said.

But he insists he will remain loyal to his currently employer in the immediate term and is desperate to turn their fortunes around.

"The message I've been sending is that I really want to spend at least the next couple of months getting the FW33 to where it should be and where I know it is as a base car because my priority is that first," Michael explained.

"I have seven months left at Williams and my contract with them is to develop the car and make sure it's as high performing and reliable as possible.

Daniel Ricciardo to debut for Toro Rosso in 2012

Toro Rosso and Red Bull reserve and third Driver Dainel Ricciardo has been unofficially confirmed to get a driving seat for Toro Rosso in 2012.

The speculation about his possible inclusion as F1 Driver is quite for some time but recently Toro Rosso team boss Franz Tost has all but confirmed Australian youngster Daniel Ricciardo will drive with the Formula One team in 2012.

However no contract had been made yet. A contract will mean either Sebastien Buemi or Jaime Alguersuari have to look for another team next season.

"He should learn the team, all the race tracks," Tost said.

"Work together with the engineers, get a little bit of knowledge about the press work, about the marketing and this should be the preparation for him to race for Toro Rosso in 2012."

Ricciardo, the 2009 British Formula Three champion, has this year been driving Toro Rosso's car in Friday morning practice sessions.

But Tost denied Ricciardo would replace Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari at any point this year, despite the Australian posting a faster time in Friday's first session in Istanbul than Buemi.

Ricciardo finished eighth of the 24 drivers who took to the track in wet conditions before he handed the car back to Alguersuari.

"This was my very first time driving at the Istanbul track and the session went well, giving me an understanding of why drivers are so keen on this circuit, with all its undulations and different types of corner," Ricciardo said.

World champion Sebastian Vettel began his career at Toro Rosso in 2007 and 2008 before moving to Red Bull Racing.

Daniel is seen as a future World Champion. He has driving skills as he is constantly proving from Friday Practice Session's as well as in Pre Season Testing. He is also very enthusiastic to driver for F1.

Timo Glock car has gear box problem. Team is desperately fixing the problem. If they could, then Timo will start the race from the pit lane.

Formation Lap:
All the front running drivers are on softer compound tyres. Tyres are pre heated almost to 100 degree Celsius.
Formation Lap completed nice and trouble free. Glock is still in the garage. Kobayashi on hard tyres, he will try the Mark Webber strategy from China.

Lap 1:
Vettel started clean leading the pack, Rosberg up in Second. Slow start for Webber. Hamilton slipping onto grass, dropped him behind button. Alonso up in 4th position. Michael up in 7th position. Kobayashi already up in 20th position. Heidfeld in pursuit of Petrov nearly contacted at the back of the car. Meanwhile Massa overtake Heidfeld. Sergio Perez in for pitstop as he lost his front wing. Glock has not started the race.

Lap 2:
Hamilton hammering his way on button. Contact between Schumacher and Petrov. Schumi lost his front wing and straight went to pits for the change of wing. Dropped him to 22nd. Barrichello up in 9th position. Michael Schumacher unnecessarily contacted with Petrov.

Lap 3.
DRS Enabled. Team asked Petrov about any damage on car, as it seems no damage after that incident.

Massa up for 7th. Kobayashi in 15th.

Lap 5
Webber past Rosberg using DRS and KERS.

Lap 6
Fastest Lap by Sebastian Vettel (Lap 5) 1min 33.762sec. Alonso up to catch Rosberg for 4th position. Alonso tried on Rosberg using DRS but could not get it to pass like Webber did. But Hamilton with the same manouveour done it on Button up in 5th position.

There is a change of strategy for drivers as they now try to save tyres. Marbles coming out of the drivers car.

Battle for 5th continues between Petrov, Massa and Button.

Lap 35:

Hamilton disastrous pit-stop. He was still for 15sec as the crew tries to put front right tyre onto the car. It seems there was a problem locking the tyre. Also, bit of a delay as Massa comes for his routine pit-stop. This will cost him any chance of podium. He really need to work hard to gain positions.

Lap 36:

Webber in pits. This might be the 3rd and last pitstop for the drivers. They may opt for 4 pit-stop strategy also. Massa off the track on grass after coming out of the pits. His tyres still not upto the optimum temperature. Further dropped to 14th. Tries to make up the ground and get pass Kobayashi for 13th. This has caused Webber anychance of podium. He really need to get pass to score some good points for the team. Massa is the winner of Turkey for 3times and known as King of Turkey.

Webber in pits. This means Red Bull is opting for 4pit-stop strategy. Paul Di Resta is out of the race. He parked his car off the race track. It is race over for Di Resta. There was some problem in the car as it was seen during pits and Force India Team asked him to stop.

Lap 47:

Alonso in pits. Back on track ahead of Webber. Rosberg get pass Massa as Massa also pits for tyres.

Massa right rear tyre stuck to get in, lot of time wasted. Surely a driver mistake, as the car might be in gear. So any chance of scoring a point seems to be over for Massa.

Lap 48:

Webber set the fastest lap of the race (Lap 48) 1min 29.703sec.

All the top drivers except for Button opting for 4pit stop strategy. As the last stop for drivers over, it will straight goes to the podium.

Lap 49:

Webber closing in on Alonso. As 9 laps remaining, battle for 2nd place in on. Button is in 4th position right now. He will try to hang onto the position.

Lap 50:

Hamilton overtakes Button easily for 4th position as he is on fresh tyres.

Alonso has not lost the hope, as he tries back on Webber, closing him. He fights back to get the position. But Alonso straight line speed is half a second slower to that of Webber. It seems KERS is not working on Webber cars. Red Bull KERS problem is still intact.

Kobayashi up to 10th position. He started the race on 24th. Its a three way fight between Alguersuari, Schumacher and Massa for 11th position. All three are on the last corner wheel to wheel, trying to pass each other. Schumacher takes advantage, Massa gets inside of Schumacher hammers him onto grass, losses ground to both dropped to 13th.

Lap 55:

Michael Schumacher fights back takes the wider line to overtake Alguersuari for 12th position.

Rosberg upto 5th as Button three stop-strategy did not paid off.

Lap 56:

Perez overtakes Alguersuari for 14th. Alguersuari dives in pits for the tyre change.

Lap 57:

Vettel lap the car ahead of him. Lapped Barrichello who is running in 15th.

Sutil and Perez fighting for 13th position and hit each other to gain position. Perez takes the lead. As they fight, Vettel passes both the car without a hitch.

Lap 58:

As Vettel pass, Sutil takes on Perez to get the position back on the last lap.

Chequered Flag way in : Sebastian Vettel won the race. Turkish GP, 2011 from pole to podium. This is his 3rd win of the season, 13th win of his career.

Webber just cross the line ahead of Alonso.

As the race ends, Perez and Sutil crossed the line 0.0 sec separated a lap down. Barrichello also cross the line just 0.1sec ahead of Alguersuari.

Vettel eases to a race win from pole to podium as other struggle to hold the line
It was the race every one will remember for all its Overtaking manoeuvers and bravehearts kissing each other's car to get the position.

The race of 2011 toys, full of little tweaks on cars, overtaking, DRS, KERS.

Almost everyman on track was overtaken atleast once except that of "Sebastian Vettel". The man is unbeatable. From Pole to podium, it seems a walk in a park for him. As no one ever closes him to get the position. With the start form the lap as he cruised his way past to lap down 11drives on track.

The race saw some of the drivers hammering down others, as the pit stop strategy became essential for win, even some of the top teams had major problem during pits also. Problem with Massa, Hamilton, Button pit stop caused them some of the points.

2011 season is a season for overtaking, excitement and new era of F1 Motorsport.

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel won the race from start to finish without any major problem. In the race of 58 laps, there was never a moment when it looked like Vettel is not at top position. Only for a little moment after 1st pit stop, Button was leading the pack, but then no other driver could get a chance to touch that place.

There was a hard fought battle for second place in the end between Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso. Webber took the second position from Alonso on Lap 51 but had there been one or two laps into the race, it might Alonso on the 2nd position. Webber drove brilliantly to the second place, there was a mistake in the garage that could have cost him his second place, but he managed to get onto it.

Finally, Fernando Alonso eager to win was seen in his Ferrari. This was the first podium finish for Ferrari this season. As the overnight change in speed of car was unimaginable. The car was not even a competition in Qualifying to Mclaren and Mercedes also, and now even managed to challenge Red Bull.

It was a bad day for Lewis and Button afterall, as Mclaren crew were not able to hold the perfect pit stop for their team which caused them dear points. In the first pit stop, Hamilton nearly hitting Massa in pits and in the last pit stop, lost a lot of ground because of some tyre change problem and then not able to get on the pedal as Massa was getting back into the pits. Button also had problems in the pits. Button three stop strategy caused him two places.

Nico Rosberg splitted the two Mclarens for 5th position. It was not the kind of the result expected from the Mercedes. As they lost most of the ground in the middle of the race. The speed that was seen during the practice and qualifying was over with the reliability of the car, but in the end, Rosberg quite manged to get onto the fifth position. While Michael had a rough day in Turky as the 7 time world champion was involved in four or five incident of hitting the cars while they try to overtake him or viceversa. Finally he finished in 12th position without points.

Renualt have a good day as both the drivers finished in points but they have the same problem of involving in the car incidents.

It was a bright run from Toro Rosso Buemi to 9th position and Kamui Kobayashi to 10th position. Kobayashi started the race from 24th last position and managed to grab the last point.

It was not a day expected by Force India as Sutil only managed to finish 11th with Paul Di Resta is the only retirement of the day other than Timo Glock who did not start the race after Gear box problem. Force India were not in the contest for points in the race.

Perez gave a tough time to Adrian Sutil in the end but did not quite managed to get to point position.

After a good start by Williams, they were looking towards scoring their first point of the season, but only in the end they lost and Barrichello only managed to finsih 15th while Maldonado in 17th. Maldonado also served drive through penalty for speeding in the pit lane.

It looks like Lotus are gaining onto the midfielders with their constant performance ahead of the new comers.

The race saw all the drivers banging wheels to each other without any major incidents. Only few times it was seen a front wing change. It was a day of pure speed and overtaking as drivers test their adrenaline to get into scoring positions. The pit lane poker again made it really hard and confusing to guess who is winning on the strategies.

There are pros and cons of 2011 Season Changes but nevertheless, until it is pouring speed and overtakings, Fans are happy so do F1.

It seems for the first time that these changes have made race artificial as DRS made it look quite easy to overtake.
