Robert Kubica suffered multiple fractures after Rally Crash

In an official statement by Lotus Renault GP, it has been confirmed that their main driver Robert Kubica has suffered from multiple fractures on right arm, leg and hand after an extensive medical checks. Robert Kubica is undergoing surgery at Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure. Earlier in the morning he had met with a high speed Rally Crash.

The Renault Formula 1 driver was contesting the Ronde di Andora rally in a Skoda Fabia when he had a heavy accident on the opening stage.

Kubica lost control of his Skodia Fabia and his car hit a wall at high speed before striking a crash barrier.

According to sources on the event, safety personnel were quickly on the scene but Kubica was trapped in the car for more than one hour because the remote location of the crash meant that extraction equipment and fire engines could not easily reach the scene. A decision was taken to airlift Kubica to the nearby hospital.

His co-driver Jakub Gerber was not injured.

Kubica has regularly contested rallies alongside his F1 career in recent years. This weekend's event in Italy was his first appearance in a Super 2000 car.

Kubica will be forced to miss this week’s Formula One test session at Jerez in Spain, and also puts him in doubt for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix next month. Top of the list to stand in for the Pole will be Bruno Senna, who raced for HRT last season and was announced as a Renault third driver earlier this week.

Team principal Eric Boullier made it clear last week that Bruno Senna would be his number one choice to slot into a race seat - because he is the one with the most contemporary F1 experience.

"I will give it to the one who is ready," Boullier said when asked which of his reserves was most likely to be used first. "Bruno is the most ready driver."

It is not the first time the Pole has been involved in an horrifying crash. He hit a wall at 300kph during the Canadian Grand Prix in 2007. Driving for Sauber, Kubica slid off the circuit and crashed into a wall, before rebounding across the track in a barrel roll and hitting another barrier. At that time, Kubica, however, was not seriously injured and after being air-lifted to hospital for checks, he was found to have sustained nothing more serious than a sprained ankle and slight concussion. He missed only one Grand Prix after the incident.

But this time, he has been seriously injured. This incident also had deteriorated the Robert hopes for 2011 world championship.

Praying for a speedy recovery for Robert Kubica.
