British Grand Prix, Silverstone Circuit - Highlights - Lap by Lap

45mins into the race:

Its raining in the Silverstone Circuit. It is going to be a wet start.
Sergio Perez had a slip run on the grass due to wet track and broken the nose. He has gone back to the pits for new nose and came back on track in time.

15mins into the race:

Rain has stopped but still we have half wet, half dry race track. We got a single racing line that means it will be difficult to overtake. Black clouds are hovering over the race track.

Everyone has completed the formation lap sound and healthy.

Lap 1:

Good start for Vettel. Takes lead from Webber in the first corner. Webber in 2nd. Button in 4th. Alonso all the way out to Webber but could not get the race track. Vettel leading the pack. Button in 4th. Di Resta in 6th. Hamilton up in 7th Michael Schumacher is already 10th. Rosberg dropped to 12th. Sutil in 11th. Di Resta attacking Massa ahead. Hamilton pass Di Resta for 6th position.

Lap 2:

Schumacher up in 9th now. Heidfeld in 14th. Two Mclarens are fighting for 4th. Hamilton passes Button for 4th. Di Resta holds his position in 7th. Massa up in 4th again.

Lap 3:

Kovalainen in pits. Looks like mechanical problem. Race over from him.

Lap 4:

Hamilton slide wide and went off the racing line onto the grass but saved his position and is in 5th. Track is still wet but drying up quickly.

Lap 5:

Schumacher is advised that they were going on dry tyre quickly but Schumacher say track is still not quite ready for it now. Rosberg being chased by Perez. Sutil up in 10th.

DRS Enabled.

Lap 6:

Buemi pass Petrov with DRS. Alguersuari also passes Petrov. Rosberg also overtakes Maldonado for 11th using DRS. Di Resta still in 7th position. perez also passes Maldonado and chasing Rosberg.

Vettel, Webber, Alonso, Massa, Hamilton, Button, Di Resta, Kobayashi, Schumacher, Sutil, Rosberg, Perez, Maldonado, Heidfeld, Buemi, Alguersuari, Petrov, Barrichello, Glock, Trulli, Liuzzi, D’Ambrosio, Ricciardo.

Lap 8:

Perez on tail of Rosberg. Alonso is chasing Webber quickly DRS zone coming up. Dry track. Hamilton tyres are worn out completely. Team Mclaren asking for dry but he urge track is still very wet at some places.

Lap 9:

Kobayashi spun as he rejoins just at 10th. Sutil passes both Schumacher and Kobayashi and is up in 8th position. Replay shows Schumacher hit at back of Sauber and in the process Schumacher lost his front wing. Schumacher in pits now.

Lap 10:

Schumacher gamble with dry tyres. New nose for Schumacher. He is the first to be on soft tyres. Comes out in P18. Heidfeld in pits too. Schumacher had to gamble for dry so early because of the accident. It was Schumacher fault as he hit at back of Kobayashi. Possible penalty coming in moments.

Hamilton chasing Massa just missed him in DRS. Massa slides a little but retain the position. Hamilton may now overtake in straight.

Lap 11:

Mark Webber set the fastest lap (Lap 10) 1min 49.988sec.

The incident between Schumacher and Kobayashi helped Sutil to be in 8th position.

Lap 12:

Schumacher set the fastest lap on dry (Lap 11) at 1min 49:012sec clearly a sec faster than Webber.

Sutil and Button pits in for dry tyres. Kobayashi also pits in. Maldonado, Buemi, Trulli follows in pits.

Petrov, Barrichello, Liuzzi and Ambrosio are in pits also. All are shifting to dry soft option tyres.

Lap 13:

Webber, Alonso, Hamilton in pits. Di REsta, Rosberg, Perez also.

Look like the gamble paid off for Schumacher. Schumacher in 9th again due to that early pit stop. Yellow flag in the sector. Alguersuari in pits.

Kobayashi nearly missed Maldonado in pits. An unsafe release by Sauber team. Massa still on intermediates.

Debutant Ricciardo in pits for the first time.

Lap 14:

Schumacher set the fastest lap (Lap 13) at 1min 45:788sec a 4sec faster lap than his earlier best on option tyres.

Vettel in pits now. He might have lost the lead due to the late stop. Massa in pits too. Vettel still lead the pack.

Lap 15:

Button pass Massa wheel to wheel on the 2nd corner.

Vettel, Webber, Alonso, Hamilton, Button, Massa, Di Resta, Sutil, Schumacher, Rosberg, Perez, Kobayashi, Heidfeld, Alguersuari, Maldonado, Buemi, Petrov, Barrichello, Glock, Liuzzi, D’Ambrosio, Ricciardo.

A 10sec Stop and Go Penalty for Michael Schumacher for hitting Kobayashi. All that go in vain.

Hamilton pass Alonso for 3rd through the wet track patch. Alonso closing in on Hamilton now.

Lap 16:

Webber set the fastest lap (Lap 15) at 1min 42:571sec.

Kobayashi under investigation for unsafe release from the pits. Kobayashi in 11th position. Both the Force India are in top 8. Strong performancer till now for Force India.

Lap 17:

Hamilton set the fastest lap (Lap 16) at 1min 41:643sec. Button successively set the fastest lap (Lap 16) at 1min 41:475sec.

Stop and Go served by Michael Schumacher. Dropped to 17th. Back in points could be difficult for him.

Due to the new pit lane configuration in Silverstone, Stewards have given Stop and Go penalty.

Lap 18:

Alonso set the fastest lap (Lap 17) at 1min 40:985sec. Track is getting quicker. Di Resta is 10sec behind Massa in front.

Lap 19:

Vettel responded to the drivers behind him. Set the fastest lap (Lap 18) at 1min 40:102sec. Alguersuari in 12th trying hard for 11th on Nick Heidfeld. Kobayashi dropeed to 13th. Struggling on track. Maldonado now try to pass Kobayashi. His car is not handling properly.

Lap 20:

But he could not as Buemi takes Maldonado. Kobayashi is given 10sec stop and go penalty for the unsafe release from the pits. Schumacher is trying his way on Petrov for P16.

Lap 21:

Webber set the fastest lap (Lap 20) at 1min 39:796sec. Webber on P2. Kobayashi in pits. Drops to 17th.

Lap 22:

Alonso set the fastest lap (Lap 21) at 1min 38:803sec. Schumacher hunt down Petrov. DRS activated on Schumacher car. Super racing by Schumacher. Up in 15th position.

Lap 23:

Alonso set another fastest lap (Lap 22) at 1min 38:761sec. Just 0.8sec behind Hamilton. Sutil now in hunt of teammate for P7.

Lap 24:

Alonso pass Hamilton using DRS wing for P3. Mclaren ready for pitstop. Hamilton in pits from P4. 4.3sec of pits. Dropped to P6.

Lap 25:

Yellow flag on track. Kobayashi has an engine failure. Smoke is coming out of the heated engine. He is out of race. Stopped the car.

Di Resta and Maldonado pits in.

Di Resta having problems in the pits. Wrong set of tyres were given to Di Resta that were prepared for Sutil. Mechanics were sleeping out there. Paul Di Resta comes out and rejoins in P16. Such a shame after such a brilliant start.

Lap 26:

Sutil in pits. Comes out in P11. Buemi also pits in.

Lap 27:

Alonso Set the fastest lap (Lap 26) at 1min 37:541sec.

Button and Massa in pits. Webber in pits too.

Yellow flag on track. Di Resta hits Buemi. Di Resta lost his front wing. More trouble for the Brit out there. Di Resta in pits again. Buemi could not reach the pits as the tyre was completely dismantled.

Lap 28:

Vettel and Alonso in pits. Vettel has problem in the pits with the rear wheel gun and tyre. Alonso gets out ahead of Vettel. Alonso gets the race lead. Hamilton in 2nd now. Vettel in 3rd.

Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel, Webber, Button, Massa, Rosberg, Perez, Heidfeld, Alguersuari, Sutil, Schumacher, Petrov, Barrichello, Maldonado, Di Resta, Glock, D’Ambrosio, Liuzzi, Ricciardo.

Alonso is being chased by Hamilton. Some big changes comes as 2nd pitstop were served. Vettel losing the lead and 2nd position as well. Dropped to third.

Lap 29:

Mercedes looking on a different strategies from the teams ahead of them.

Lap 30:

Ambrosio in pits. Vettel chasing Hamilton for P2. Vettel was told to be patient as long race to go.

Rosberg and Heidfeld in pits.

Lap 32:

Alguersuari and Schumacher pits in from P8 and P9 respectively. Sutil in P11 currently. Barrichello in pits too.

Schumacher dropped to P13. Alonso is pulling his way away from Hamilton. Now 6sec ahead of the Mclaren. Vettel charging his way to the Hamilton.

Lap 33:

Alonso set the fastest lap (Lap 32) at 1min 35:769sec. Perez in pits. Last one on lead lap to pit in. Vettel only 0.4sec behind Hamilton. Sutil up in 9th position. Sutil is on a three stop strategy. Webber just hangs onto the racing line as he went slightly onto the grass.

Lap 34:

Schumacher overtakes Alguersuari for P12. Vettel getting impatient as Alonso pulls away from him. Alonso extends his lead to 9.4sec.

Lap 36:

Vettel trying very hard on Hamilton. Hamilton is strongly resisting onto the straight line. Vettel just missing the Hamilton car. Great driving from both the drivers. Vettel dives into the pits for fresh tyres. Change of strategy for him. Early stop as he could not past Hamilton.

Lap 37:

Perfect stop for Vettel. Dropped to P6 for now. 3.4sec stop for him. He comes behind lap down Di Resta. As he make his pass on lap down Di Resta, Hamilton is also set for pitstop.

Lap 38:

Hamilton in pits too. Hamilton comes behind Vettel and that is also 1.2sec behind him. Vettel stop was enough to put Hamilton behind Vettel. Hamilton drops to P6. Another soft tyres for him. He will go all the way with this set of tyre.

Button going on for Webber for P2. Vettel now chasing Massa for P4.

Lap 39:

Webber in pits. Webber drops to P6. Behind both Hamilton and Vettel.

Vettel set the fastest lap (Lap 38) at 2min 35:585sec. Petrov in pits too. Vettel pass Massa easily for 3rd.

Lap 40:

Alonso in pits. Is he coming ahead of Vettel. Button in pits too. Alonso stayed at P1. Great stuff from Ferrari. Button drops to P5 but it look likes Button is stopping.

Button pulls his car on the side of pitlane exit. Wheel nut for the front right tyre was not fitted on to the car. Race over for the British Driver. Disappointing day for him. British fan are sad.

Button front right tyre looks to completely dislodge as there was no wheel nut.

Lap 41:

Order on track:

Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, Massa, Webber, Rosberg, Perez, Sutil, Heidfeld, Schumacher, Alguersuari, Petrov, Barrichello, Maldonado, Di Resta, Glock, D’Ambrosio, Liuzzi, Ricciardo.

Lap 42:

Fernando Alonso set the fastest lap (Lap 41) at 1min 34:908sec. Massa in pits from P4. Drops to P5. Webber in P4 now. Sutil in pits. Drops to P11. Hamilton is told that there is less fuel in the car. They have to save the fuel and have to slow down a little. More problem for Mclaren team. This could allow Webber to pass Hamilton for P3.

Alonso holds a 14sec lead to Vettel.

Lap 43:

Stewards investigating Button unsafe release from the pits. Hamilton locks as he has to keep Webber at bay.

Lap 45:

Webber only 0.5sec behind Hamilton. Hamilton is to told to hold Webber but need to complete the race. Alonso and Ferrari are heading for their first win of this season.

Lap 46:

Hamilton did not give room to Webber but Webber takes a wide line as he passes Hamilton for P3. Hamilton did everything to stop Webber.

Lap 47:

Massa is now in condition to get Hamilton. Perez trying his way on Rosberg for P6. That Sauber is working enough to get Rosberg for P6. Schumacher is only 1sec behind Heidfeld. Schumacher has fought well today. After being dropped to 18th and come back to 9th.

Lap 48:

Rosberg was told to save tyres. Big lock up by Perez as he tries his way pass Rosberg. Lost ground.

Massa is just 7sec behind Hamilton now.

Lap 50:

3 Laps Remaining:

Massa is gaining 3sec per lap. 4sec behind Hamilton. Webber is closing in on Vettel for P2. Only 1sec behind Vettel.

2 Laps Remaining:

Massa is only 1.7sec behind Hamilton. He will surely going to try his luck.

Vettel Webber wheel to wheel on Lap 51. Vettel just hangs on to P2.

Lap 52:

Final Lap:

Battle for P2 - Vettle and Webber. The two Red Bulls.

Battle for P4 - Hamilton and Massa.

Webber DRS wing open. Vettel hold on to P2. Massa charging on to Hamilton. DRS Open.

Vettel and Webber on straight. Alonso leads to victory. Super stuff from Fernando Alonso. First Victory of the season for Ferrari. It is 60years after their first win at Silverstone.

Webber was told on to the radio to maintain the gap. Team orders were made by Red Bull and Vettel will be finishing 2nd.

Massa leads Hamilton for P4 onto the final corner but Massa skid. It is wheel to wheel onto the final corner. Massa little ahead but lost momentum and onto the grass as the two made contact.

Hamilton front wing damaged due to the contact but he maintain himself and just crosses the line before Massa did. Clever strategy by Hamilton. Hamilton remains P4.

Alonso finished the race at 1hr 28min 41:196sec.
