Indian Driver, Karun Chandhok Jarno Trulli

Indian Driver Karun Chandhok will be finally given a chance to drive a Formula One Car after a long haul of 17 Races. He has earlier driver for HRT in 2010 when he made his debut with HRT in Bahrain last year.

He will be replacing Jarno Trulli in German Formula One Grand Prix for Team Lotus.

Ironically, He will be driving just where he was dropped last year.

Karun Chandhok was dropped after British Grand Prix (After 10 Races of 2010 Season), just before the German Grand Prix. Now he is getting his seat back for German GP in 2011. Moreover with a better team than last year.

Team boss Tony Fernandes said he wanted to give Indian reserve driver Chandhok, 27, his first opportunity to contest a Grand Prix since he was ousted by HRT F1 a year ago.

Now he is faced with a new car, new tyres and the addition of the Drag Reduction System (DRS) at the Nurburgring this weekend. Chandhok has taken part in four Friday practice sessions this year but crashed on his outlap in Australia, suffered reliability issues at Valencia and faced miserable conditions in both Turkey and Britain.

"This weekend is not about heroics," he told. "I have never driven the car in a full race. I have never had a feel of the Pirelli dry tyres and the DRS. This is going to be a learning experience. I will be giving my best during the weekend."

Jarno Trulli, who is making way for Chandhok this weekend, will be back in his Lotus cockpit at the Hungarian Grand Prix and is expected to see out the rest of the season with the team. Asked if there was a chance he would get a race at his home grand prix in India, Chandhok said: "Racing in the German GP is a one-off chance. I am fully concentrated on doing well this weekend and not thinking too far ahead."

But asked what his target is for 2012, Chandhok said: "To have a full racing seat for next year. I would be happy if I get a chance to do so with Team Lotus."

Negotiation

According to Tony Fernandes, the team principal of Team Lotus, the team is currently discussing a possible contract extension with Jarno Trulli.

Trulli is one of the most senior drivers of the sport but still he has not been able to help the team improve its car much in 2011 in terms of pace as a result of which they are pretty much at the same position as they were back in 2010.

“I am delighted to confirm that we are in the process of negotiating an extension to his contract with us and we are all looking forward to unveiling the details of that very soon. He is a key member of our team and I hope that we can give him a car as soon as possible that allows him to utilise his considerable talent to the full,” said Fernandes
