Force India’s Formula 1 rookie Paul di Resta has stated that he would surely be looking to extend his contract with the Britain-based team for the 2012 season.

The Scottish driver added that he came in Formula 1 sport with Force India with a mindset of spending more than one season with the team.

He stated, “There are many things you hear, but you don't know. I really don't know where I am next year. Naturally, I'd love to be with a bigger team battling up at the front, that's my ambition, but Force India is an up-and-coming team.”

Di Resta added that Force India have not improved on their 2010’s progress and have actually gone backward with development for the 2011 season. The Scottish driver added that he sees a lot of potential in the team to bounce back in Formula 1 in near future.

“This year has been more difficult than we thought. We've not picked up from where we left off last year. But sometimes things go down before they go up, and you take one step back to go two steps forward,” he said.

A look at the points table tells that di Resta has not been up to the mark and is 16 points behind his teammate Adrian Sutil in the drivers’ championship.

However, the British driver has performed exceptionally in the qualifiers and often is ahead of Sutil. In the Silverstone Grand Prix, di Resta made it to Q3 in front of his home crowd.

Nine races are still to be contested in the 2011 Formula 1 season and it will be interesting to see how di Resta performs because he might be considered for one of the bigger teams as there will be some vacancies for the 2012 season.

Let’s see how he fares in the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix.
