22 year old, Canadian Driver Robert Wickens may be inline for debut in F1 against driver seat of Jerome D'Ambrosio with Virgin Racing team.

D’Ambrosio’s spot with the F1 team is in danger because his sponsors have failed to make payments to Virgin Racing. Some reports say the team is owed as much as $5 million.

Wickens is linked to Virgin through his Formula Renault 3.5 sponsor Marussia, which is reportedly eager to see the Canadian drive in F1 and acquired a substantial stake in Virgin earlier this year.

Wickens has had an excellent start to his Formula 3.5 season and leads the drivers’ standings with 71 points, 14 ahead of France’s Jean Eric Vergne after two races.

Wickens won the first race for his Carlin team, and finished second behind Vergne, a Carlin teammate, in the second race.

If D'Ambrosio could not make the payment then he will be replaced.
