Experienced Formula 1 technical advisor, Mark Smith has joined team Lotus nearly a year after he was appointed to the job.
The Malaysian-owned Formula One team said in a statement that Smith's arrival from rivals Force India completed the technical department led by Mike Gascoyne at their Hingham factory.
"This is the first time I have been in the factory and I am very impressed with what I have seen across all the departments," said Smith, who has also worked for Jordan, Renault and Red Bull Racing, Force India.
"I have never been involved in a Championship win with any of those teams and I see that as one of my key goals with Team Lotus," added the Briton, who has worked with Gascoyne at previous teams.
Team Lotus, the best of three newcomers last season, have yet to score a point in Formula One but Smith, who was appointed in June last year but held to a Force India contract until April, hoped to change that.
"I was genuinely impressed at how this team reached the 2010 grid with a good functional car and a professional looking operation in such a short time," he said.
"That was a huge achievement and they have built upon that in 2011, so the foundations are there for long-term success."
