Ferrari intends to produce major improvements in the Turkish Grand Prix
The Italian team has finished no higher than fourth in three races this season, with both Spaniard Fernando Alonso and Brazilian Felipe Massa unable to match it with the Red Bull of reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel.
The F150 Italia has undergone a number of alterations during the three-week break between the Chinese and Turkish Grands Prix.
While the vehicle is yet to match Ferrari's usual high-standards, team principal Stefano Domenicali is at least satisfied with the performance of his drivers.
"I think I've seen Felipe (Massa) going back to his standard," Domenicali said.
"I'm very pleased for him and the team. And Fernando (Alonso) is always aggressive so that's the way the guys should really behave."
Massa, now entering his sixth season with Ferrari, is hopeful the adjustments will enable a more competitive performance at the Istanbul Park circuit.
"I hope we can take a big step forward," Massa said.
Upgrades include a new front, modified brake ducts and adjustable wings, in the up-coming race weekend in Turkey, on May 8.
Ferrari also tested new components for its struggling 2011 car during a track day for “a promotional film” at Maranello last Friday.
Last year, the wording of the in-season testing ban was improved to explicitly rule out the testing of new components for the few filming days permitted for each team.
Brazil’s Globo also said the car Massa drove at Fiorano “had some differences” compared with the car used in Australia, Malaysia and China.
All the reports indicated that the car seemed “higher at the rear” than before, almost certainly to imitate the rake seen in the Red Bull to make best use of a flexible front wing.
