RENAULT Formula One owner Eric Lux says "he plans to sue Force India driver Adrian Sutil for physical assault following an incident in Shanghai".

A lawyer for Lux said in a statement that 'Lux would sue the German driver for "for physical assault and grievous bodily harm" over a reported nightclub incident following the Chinese GP last month'.

The legal action against Sutil could involve a damages claim of $14-million.

“As soon as the complaint is registered, the FIA and Force India will be notified,” the statement added.

One report said Lux suffered cuts to his neck when Sutil attacked him with a champagne glass.

German newspaper Bild said Sutil’s friend Lewis Hamilton was in the same VIP room at the M1NT nightclub at the time of the incident, and the statement said Lux “does not exclude commencing an action against any other persons involved in this matter”.

Without going into detail, Sutil, 28, issued an apology in a statement to German media and said his actions were accidental.

"I regret this incident and I have already apologised," the German added.

Force India and a Renault team spokeswoman confirmed at the time that the other person involved was Lux but said it was a private matter and gave no further information.
