India might get its second Formula One destination with plans afoot to set up a circuit in Goa.

The promoters are believed to be scouting for a locale in Goa and set up a circuit on the lines of the Monaco Grand Prix. Tourism director Swapnil Naik confirmed the development to the Times of India newspaper.

"Yes, we have been approached for a F1 circuit in Goa. We have decided to go ahead with it," he said.

However, Naik did not reveal any particular location in Goa and indicated the search was still on for an appropriate place.

"We are looking first at our own properties which were acquired by the state government for tourism purposes. We have quite a few by the coast. So, it could be anyone of them."

The Goa government had formed a high-powered task force to chalk out a roadmap for the tourism sector in the state.

The committee will take a call on various infrastructural projects for Goa such as golf courses, entertainment parks, boxing arenas, and the F1 race circuit among other plans. The announcement was made by tourism minister Nilkanth Halarnkar at the last session of the legislative assembly.
