Pirelli predict ‘high tyre wearing’ at the Turkish GP

Pirelli's Motorsports Director, Paul Hembery, is expecting ‘high tyre wearing’ in the Turkish weekend. Therefore, he anticipates the need to change the tyres strategy work during the race.

He added, "It is going to vary race to race, and circuit to circuit, depending on what tyre of surface it is. But we have had a lot of credit from a lot of people about the nature of the races so far - and if we continue like that we will have a great season".

Hembery said that the Turkish race would be similar to the Malaysian race in terms of tyre wear since its circuit has a very abrasive surface. Increased tyre wearing in Istanbul would probably be the worst for Pirelli, implying that they would have to work more on improvising the quality of the tyres.

He went on to say, "What we realised in these last few races is we are missing three or four laps of durability, particularly with the harder compound on abrasive surfaces. What we don't want is the teams to adopt the same strategy".

Pirelli informed that they are planning to work on the hard compound of tyres since they suppose that the hard ones can do more laps than the soft tyres.

An Italian manufacturer is looking forward to use super soft and soft tyres in both, Canada and Monte Carlo races.

On the other hand, Pirelli planned to introduce some more different coloured tyre markings for the Turkish Grand Prix, following complaints that markings on various compounds were barely visible in races.

After the first two races of 2011 in Australia and Malaysia, Pirelli added more stripes on the tyres’ sidewalls. However, they have proven to be difficult for viewers to distinguish during the races.

They added a golden stripe in the sidewalls of the soft compound tyres after getting negative feedback about these markings. Moreover, they worked on the silver marking of the tyres that seemed to be badly blurred with the original theme of rubber in the Australian race.

The Chinese weekend brings immense pleasure for Pirelli as the tyres gave upbeat results and there were no major problems with the tyres. All drivers were happy with the supportive work of these tyres.

Pirelli brand suppliers replaced its driver, Pedro de la Rosa, with GP2 series driver, Lucas Di Grassi, as Rosa accepted an offer from the McLaren team a few days ago.
