The organizers responsible for bringing Formula One racing back to the United States in 2012 officially bestowed a name to its Austin track -- 'Circuit of the Americas'.
Representatives from Full Throttle Productions, which is promoting the United States Grand Prix in Austin, announced the track's name during a press conference on Tuesday.
"One of the most inviting aspects of the name is the word 'Americas'," said Red McCombs, who is founding partner of the Austin race track. "It reflects Austin's ideal location at the crossroads of North America, from north to south, east to west. Also, it speaks to our state [Texas] as a center of commerce and cultural exchange in this hemisphere."
McCombs is the co-founder of Clear Channel Communications, as well as former owner of the San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Vikings.
COTA will also host a MotoGP race, beginning in 2013.
The $250 million, 3.4-mile race facility, currently under construction, will have a capacity for 120,000 fans.
Last May, F1 top boss Bernie Ecclestone and Full Throttle Productions revealed that Austin will serve as the host city of the U.S. Grand Prix until 2021. F1 has not competed in America since 2007.
