The Scottish Force India driver, Paul Di Resta, who is just turned 25, scored a point in both of the opening two races this season and just missed out on another by finishing 11th in China at the weekend.
Mercedes-Benz Motorsport boss Norbert Haug, whose company supplies Force India's engines, said: "We always knew he was good but his start has been exceptional.
"F1 will be very good for him. His speed is quite impressive and he is doing a fine job."
