The President of the Ferrari team, Luca di Montezemolo, has regretted his team’s performance in the opening two races of the 2011 Formula 1 season. Luca stated that the Ferrari team has the potential of doing wonders and will come up with some upgrades in the near future, as the team will soon be going for podium finishes.
Ferrari’s mediocre performance in the first two races has raised many questions about their pace because 2011 was seen as a Red Bull versus Ferrari season. A long way from that, Ferrari is fighting for their survival against a much smaller team, Renault. Ferrari’s duo, Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso, have shown some pace in the Ferrari 150° Italia but are unable to match the speed of the Red Bull or McLaren on straight runs.
Apart from speed, Alonso also had a problem with his rear movable wing in the Malaysian Grand Prix as he was forced to overtake Lewis Hamilton in a conventional way in which the Spaniard failed over the soft, degraded Pirelli tyres.
Luca seemed disappointed with the team’s performance when he said, “I am definitely not satisfied with the way the season has begun, but I have complete faith in the people here, who know how to react when the situation is tough.”
Ferrari’s President hoped for a great 2011 season start after the team came out of the pre-season testing sessions in which they were regarded as the closet rival to the Red Bull team. He told that he spoke to Alonso after the Malaysian Grand Prix and the Spaniard seemed very happy about the race.
Luca hoped for a quick turnaround in the team’s performance, but said that new developments in a space of one week are rather unrealistic.
“I know from (team principal) Stefano Domenicali that everyone has got their heads down working hard,” added Luca.
Ferrari’s main guns, Stefano Domenicali, Aldo Costa and Pat Fry are back in the Maranello factory to sort out the problem and hopefully they will find a solution to the issues plaguing the cars.
If the situation does not change in Chinese Grand Prix then they will try for Plan B otherwise stick to the plans quoted as mentioning about the situation
The next race, the Chinese Grand Prix is scheduled to for 17 April in Shanghai.
