A year that began with ‘firestarters’ The Prodigy taking stage, will definitely get bigger in the coming months. This time, Metallica is slated to perform at the Inaugural Formula One Indian Grand Prix to be held at Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida in October this year.

Bassist Robert Trujillo, who replaced Jason New sted in the Californian heavy metal outfit, said in an interview with the Inland Empire Weekly magazine,

“We are going to play India in October. That should be interesting, playing in a place we never thought in our wildest dreams we’d (go) to play.”

The heavy metal giants, famous for anthems like Enter Sandman…, Nothing Else Matters… and For Whom The Bell Tolls…, are expected to headline F1 Rocks, scheduled between October 29 and 30. Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India president Vicky Chandok says, “Yes, I heard about Metallica coming over for the race, but we are approaching a lot of bands. This is something only our events management company can confirm.”

DNA Entertainment Networks, that has previously brought international names like Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Scorpions, Roger Waters and Deep Purple to Indian shores, is working hard to put forth a stellar show. “We have approached many top-notch bands, but we can’t reveal the names now,” says Karuna Prithvi, media manager at DNA Entertainment Networks. “We approached Metallica, but there have not been any confirmations as of now,” she added.
