Croatia has become the latest country to be linked with hosting a Formula One race.
The route for Formula 1 race to be built in Zagreb, Croatia.
The idea about one of the fastest route for car and motorcycle races in the world could be placed only 15 kilometers from Jelacic Square in Zagreb Local daily Vecernji List said that the project planned for just outside Zagreb has the support of the FIA, Bernie Ecclestone and favoured track designer Hermann Tilke.
According to the report the project has an estimated budget of €250 million, which will wholly come from private investors, and would take more than 18 months to complete. The Croatian government's involvement would be to attempt to ease any bureaucratic obstacles.
Croatia is not yet a European Union member and is currently experiencing some unrest. Thousands of Croatians marched through Zagreb over the weekend demanding the fall of the government amid a financial crisis and allegations of corruption.
"The path should be licensed for several categories of world championship racing, GT1, WTCC, Moto GP and karts. It is designed according to the highest standards of FIA, so in the future, with additional licensing, the Formula 1 race could take place on it. However, for now, of course, there is no question about. But even people in the FIA can not believe that the trail is so close to the capital. Multi-purpose center is not intended for racing only, but it will be a small town with all facilities", explained Gregurek, a close associate of Jean Todt.
